FAQs

Our accredited online course costs just £250 per place. Why so affordable? It’s because we believe passionately in Active Conversations and all revenue generated goes to course delivery and any surplus helps cover key costs required to sustain the Moving Medicine intiative.

No, the beauty of Active Conversations is that you can fit your studying in to suit you. Modules will be released when you sign up, and we recommend that you schedule some time in that week to study and practice the techniques learnt. It doesn’t matter if you start on a different day each week.

There are 6 modules in the course (Foundations consists of 2 modules in total), and each module will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete. This is broken down into approximately 1 hours of online learning, 1 hour of dedicated practice and 0.5 hours on reflection.

Active Conversations is for anyone who wants to study motivational interviewing in the context of physical activity. The course has previously attracted consultants, social prescribers, physiotherapists, midwives, cardiac rehabilitation specialists, dermatologists, dieticians, GPs, nursing assistants, community exercise officers, medical students, orthotists, paediatricians and administrators.
We suggest that you speak with patients/clients on a regular basis as this will enable you to put the techniques learnt into practice.
This course is delivered online; to participate you must to be familiar with using a computer. You will also need regular access to the Internet.

We understand the demands of working in busy jobs whilst learning new skills. We have designed the course to be flexible, with new modules released once you have completed the previous module (at least a week will be between each module) that can be fitted in and around your work schedule.
A huge part of the learning in this course is through deliberate practise of new skills whilst undertaking your day to day work, making a significant amount of the time commitment fit into your normal working hours.

Yes! The course content and feedback is online, however you can choose to study and practice with a friend. We offer group discounts for 10 or more people. Email activeconversations@movingmedicine.ac.uk for group bookings.

Yes! We now offer the course starting on a day to suit you, so you can either choose to wait until you return from leave, or schedule your learning around it.

Active Conversations are grounded in motivational interviewing theory, but the format of this course is very different to many MI courses encouraging sustained deliberate practise of new skills. Previous learners who have done MI courses prior to active conversations have found this course an important way to develop and consolidate their skills:
“It has been a fantastic way of learning. Having done two other MI weekend courses, this has given much more chance to reflect, practice, and move things forwards”

No, you will still be able to learn and put into practice techniques learnt in the course. If your rotation cuts down on the number of patient facing hours that you have, we would suggest you practice techniques with friends, family or
colleagues.

We do not currently offer any face to face training sessions
